Coach Otis “Wash” Washington
Coach Otis “Wash” Washington bust sculpture commission celebrates his Civil Rights, Leadership and Coach roles. In the early days of integration, as part of a civil rights movement in New Orleans, the 1967 Federal court ruling gave way for entrance of St. Augustine HS into the all-white sports LHSAA. Newly appointed as Head Football Coach, Otis Washington then went on to lead his team to prominence in 1970’s and was an inspiration to the black community.
